Is social good a trend or a fad or is it legit? Does Dooce really care about Bangladesh? Did top mom bloggers learn anything from their recent trip to Africa? Do we really want to change the world or just make ourselves feel better about it?
The bottom line is that it is doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter what people’s intentions are when it comes to social good. What matters is if they are making a difference. I love the idea of using your presence, your voice, your power, your visibility to raise awareness about a cause that speaks to you. Not everyone has to support every cause. But if something resonates with you, then do something about it. That’s the basic premise behind social good.
I’ve written personally about issues that I take issue with. I have donated to causes I support. I even have space on my personal blog where I’ll advertise charitable activities free of charge if it’s something I believe it. And if you were to hop on over to my personal blog and check out that space, here’s what you would see there.
It’s a simple badge for a simple movement. Get bloggers involved in a co-sponsored challenge by FlipFlop wines and Soles4Souls. I’ve accepted the challenge and wrote in great detail about how I’m participating.
Here is the 2 second summary: collect shoes for those in need.
Soles4Souls works internationally to distribute new and gently used shoes to those in need. My goal is to collect at least 500 pairs of shoes and I need your help.
I’m going to try something. I’m going to barter with you. I consult with people on a regular basis and if that’s something that’s valuable to you, I’d like to offer it to you (offer valid until November 7th, 2011).
If you are a blogger and can collect and ship at least 10 pairs of shoes on my behalf, I’ll spend one hour consulting with you on how to take your blog to the next level. We can discuss anything you want from writing to design to networking and visibility.
If you are a business and can collect and ship at least 25 pairs of shoes on my behalf, I’ll spend one hour consulting with you on your overall online presence. I’ll do a complete assessment of your social space and answer any questions you have about strategy or even about specific blogging campaigns.
If this is something you are interested in, let’s talk! Please fill in form below!
I’ll provide you everything you need to know for show collection and delivery and then we’ll set up some time for an hour long consultation in person (if that’s possible), on the phone, or via Skype.
If neither of these options is your bag and you still want to help, I’m also accepting donations to help offset the shipping costs that will come out of my pocket.
Thanks in advance for your support and lending some of your social good!
